Include the Federation through Planned Giving
The Federation gratefully accepts gifts in the form of bequests (gifts made through your will). Bequests are a practical, simple, and very important way to ensure the Federation’s future. By naming the Federation as a beneficiary in your will, your gift helps ensure that families of children with special needs will continue to be offered support, training, and information for many years to come.
To leave a gift in your will, simply ask your attorney or financial planner to include the following sentence:
“I bequeath $______ or ________% of my estate to the Federation for Children with Special Needs, The Schrafft Center, 529 Main Street, Suite 1M3, Charlestown, MA 02129.”
For assistance, or to explore other planned giving questions and opportunities, please contact the Development Office at 617-236-7210, ext. 374. You may also email our Director of Development, Maureen Jerz, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“I literally couldn’t figure this out without you. Just knowing you are there is a comfort!”
The words of a parent, Vicki, who contacted the Federation for help for her daughter.
Vicki is the mother of a 12 year old with a behavioral health diagnosis. Vicki contacted the Federation’s Family to Family Health Information Center about a number of concerns and problems she was having trying to navigate the complicated world of obtaining insurance coverage for her child. It soon became clear that Vicki needed more than just health insurance information. A single parent, Vicki had been struggling with feelings of isolation while caring for her child, who had recently been hospitalized. They had no home-based services, no family support. Vicki was under extreme stress, worried that her job was in jeopardy because of the time she was spending to care for her child’s needs.
A Federation staff member guided Vicki through obtaining appropriate insurance coverage, accessing the state sponsored child disability supplement, obtaining resources for financial planning, camp scholarships and referrals to a variety of child care services. The Federation’s mission to inform, educate and empower families of children with special needs is the basis of every service we provide. With assistance from the Federation, Vicki is now feeling empowered and growing more confident in her own ability to access the education, health and community supports her child needs. Today, Vicki’ daughter is doing well. She has been able to remain at home while getting appropriate services in her school and community.
Your support through our Annual Appeal helps us assist hundreds of other parents in Massachusetts who, like Vicki, struggle to get educational, health, and community resources for their child with special needs. We hope that you will donate generously this year! Your gift ensures that parents receive help in knowing how to access necessary services, learn the skills they need to successfully advocate for their own child, and develop confidence in their ability to “figure things out”.In Vicki’s words,
“The support and information you provide makes a world of difference”.

Supporting the Federation Improves Outcomes for Children with Special NeedsIt is said that if you give a person a fish, and they will eat for a day, but if you teach a person to fish, they will never go hungry. When parents are informed, educated and empowered with knowledge and information, they are more equipped to be their child’s best advocate. Watch Jameel’s Story to hear about how one parent benefited from attending the Federation’s Visions of Community Conference.
