News from Family TIES of Massachusetts
By Mary Castro Summers, Director
Family TIES of Massachusetts

Family TIES of Massachusetts is a statewide information and support network for families of children with special needs. It is a project at the Federation for Children with Special Needs, funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Division for Perinatal Health, Early Childhood and Special Health Needs.

Our Regional Coordinators focus their efforts on identifying local, community resources for families and professionals throughout the state. These include organizations that can offer financial or emotional support, and help with identifying the assistive technology, augmentative communication services, camp and recreation programs, after-school activities, childcare, legal and educational services, respite, nursing supports, and condition-specific organizations and support groups that you may need. The Family TIES Web site includes these resources, information and more. Visit us at www.massfamilyties.org or call us at 1-800-905-TIES (8437) for information and referral services, parent-to-parent support, or to arrange a workshop.

The Family TIES staff looks forward to meeting parents at the upcoming Visions of Community conference on March 13. We will host our “Welcome to Holland” nook, where families can take a break and connect with each other. In addition, we will be giving away lots of wonderful books for children, teens and parents. Be sure to stop by and select some books to take home as a conference souvenir. And, don’t forget to stop and say hello at our exhibit tables on the Mezzanine Level before heading to the Regional Resource tables on the Main Floor to learn more about programs in your community.

We look forward to seeing you at the conference and to hearing from you throughout the year.
