No Child Left Behind
The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB ) was signed into law by President Bush in January 2002. It sets high expectations for all students, regardless of their race, ethnicity, family background, or disability. It aims for all students to reach high academic standards by 2014.
The guiding principles of NCLB are:
- Accountability-State and Local Report Cards, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), Highly Qualified Teachers and MCAS
- Focus on What Works-Scientifically Based Educational Research and Research Based Reforms
- Reduce Bureaucracy and Increase Flexibility-Local Control for Local Challenges
- Empower Parents-Parent Involvement Policies, School Choice and Supplemental Educational Services (SES)
