{"id":1380001,"date":"2025-04-24T14:45:36","date_gmt":"2025-04-24T18:45:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fcsn.org\/?p=1380001"},"modified":"2025-10-08T17:00:40","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T21:00:40","slug":"identifying-issues-member-surveys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fcsn.org\/ar\/identifying-issues-member-surveys\/","title":{"rendered":"Gathering Input\/Surveys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A SEPAC needs to have a good pulse on the state of special education in the school district.<\/p>\n<p>To learn what the concerns are among parents, many SEPACs conduct a \u201cneeds assessment\u201d to identify the greatest areas of need and to assist the SEPAC to meet its statutory obligation to advise the district and participate in the planning, development and evaluation of the school district\u2019s programs.<\/p>\n<p>A formal assessment survey is one tool which will capture what is currently happening in the district and allow the SEPAC to frame issues to address. Developing a non-biased survey is difficult and the SEPAC can work with the district to develop a survey which will be fair and comprehensive. The goal is to get feedback on the system as a whole. Whatever tool the SEPAC uses, all data should be shared with the district to create trust in the results. Information gathered by surveys can identify the primary concerns among families of students with disabilities and shape the SEPAC\u2019s actions, programs, workshops and support efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The SEPAC can also use informal assessments such as\u00a0focus groups or discussion round-tables to allow all\u00a0stakeholders to have a voice in the process.<\/p>\n<p>SEPACs can also survey their membership to help with planning workshops, activities and how best to operate. Does the membership want day or evening meetings, what is the best way to communicate news and information, or would having child care help attendance? Membership changes every couple of years and new members may have different needs.\u00a0 Surveys can help the SEPAC meet the needs of their members.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A SEPAC needs to have a good pulse on the state of special education in the school district.
