Jenn Smidy

My name is Jenn Smidy, and I am the Western MA Coordinator for Family TIES. As an experienced special education supervisor/administrator and early childhood specialist with over twenty years in the field I am excited to be a bridge between community and getting support/resources to help your child/family.

 In addition to my formal, educational training, I am first and foremost a Mom to a wonderful 22 year old, with complex care needs. My daughter has been the best teacher for me, as each day, we learn and grow together. I have been provided experiences and opportunities that include medical/health needs, early intervention, elementary and secondary school ages, medical, mental health, learning disabilities, social/emotional/behavioral/ attentional challenges, and the joys and challenges of being a parent of a child with special needs.

Since starting employment in the field, I have built upon my experiences, qualities, and expertise. I have had a range of jobs that have built upon each other, which has allowed me to advance my career and strive for my goals.

In addition, I have always had an interest in helping others to reach their potential as well as taking pride in who they are. My passion is to help families, individuals, agencies, and communities to better understand differences in skills and abilities, as well as to support the team to be the best advocate for your child. I have a unique perspective that has helped me build and maintain positive, open communication with parents, staff, as well as professionals. I strongly believe that parents/guardians have the most accurate, up-to-date perspective and their voice is crucial to the success of their child/children/family.
