Being aware of state policies and advocacy is a great way to get connected to services and build a network.

What are some Massachusetts initiatives that impact individuals with disabilities?

1. Get to know Employment First a policy that serves individuals in the development of service plans and service delivery, assistance and supports for individual, integrated employment.

2. Learn about Community First and the Olmstead Plan (PDF) that empower and support people with disabilities and elders to live with dignity and independence in the community by expanding, strengthening, and integrating systems of community-based long-term supports that are person-centered, high in quality and provide optimal choice.

3. Be familiar with a new law for teachers to obtain an Endorsement in Transition Services.

4. Learn more about the ABLE Act and the opportunities for 529 accounts and saving for postsecondary options such as college and housing.
