Laws that Impact Employment

There are several laws that influence who and how transition services are provided to youth with disabilities.  Job seekers and individuals with disabilities in the workplace can benefit from the WIOA, ADA, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973- Section 504.

What are the important laws that impact transition services?

1.  The Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act of 2014 assists job seekers with and without disabilities receive and benefit from job search and placement assistance, career counseling, skills training, and other supportive services.

2.  The American with Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public.

4. The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability and provides protections through Section 504 for the accessibility of programs and agencies that receive federal funding.
