Massachusetts Community AIDS Resource Enhancement (MassCARE)

The MassCARE Program was designed to ensure access and to enhance statewide capacity to provide coordinated, comprehensive, family centered and linguistically competent counseling, testing and care for women, children and adolescents living with HIV. It is one of 58 programs funded nationally under Title IV of the Ryan White Care Act. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has funded MassCARE at the Federation for Children with Special Needs to implement Family Support Initiatives throughout the state for women and their families infected/affected with HIV/AIDS. The Coordinator of Community Support Initiatives and the Family Support Specialist at FCSN work to support both the Family Advisory Network (FAN) and the Teen Advisory Network (TAN). FAN and TAN members have active roles in planning and leading meetings and activities. Activities include:

  • Regional and Statewide FAN meetings and educational events
  • Annual conference
  • Family Networking Day
  • Quarterly Newsletter
  • Peer Support
  • Training in leadership and advocacy
  • Statewide meetings and networking events for the TAN
  • Support for MassCARE consumers to attend the National AIDS Alliance conference and lobbying day in Washington DC
