PCTI Format and Structure
PCTIs are currently offered in the following online formats: synchronous (live) meetings and asynchronous (presentation recordings and online learning module activities).
Online Synchronous (live, once-a-week meetings via Zoom) PCTI Options:
The general PCTI format includes meetings that occur on the same day each week for 8-weeks (optional 9th day for PCTI internships). Weekly live synchronous online meetings usually consist of 2 – 3 interactive presentations led by FCSN staff, attorneys, experts in the field of special education, representatives from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Bureau of Special Education Appeals (BSEA), among others. In addition to class time, participants are expected to complete approximately 1.5 hours per week of additional coursework that will be made available on Canvas, an online learning platform. This virtual coursework generally includes videos, discussion boards, blogs, and other media that support and complement course material.
Online Asynchronous (self-guided weekly online course modules) PCTI Option:
Our Asynchronous PCTI option will provide a self-guided alternative to our live synchronous sessions. This option provides participants with access to presentation recordings (from previous PCTI sessions) and interactive activities in the form of weekly online learning modules made available on Canvas. Participants are expected to complete the activities in weekly modules by their due dates.
In-person 5-Day Intensive PCTI Option :
Our Summer 5-Day Intensive Session traditionally takes place the final week of June, Monday – Friday from approximately 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Each day includes 3 – 4 interactive presentations similar to the general PCTI session option.
NOTE: Please note that you must have access to a reliable internet connection to participate in any of our remote/online PCTI options. Click on this link to view a video created by the Notre Dame Office of Digital Learning to see examples of these three remote learning options. We also highly recommend that PCTI attendees have some familiarity with special education procedures (i.e., FCSN Basic Rights Series Workshops: Evaluation and Eligibility, Understanding the Individualized Education Program, Transition Planning (for ages 14-22). A list of free workshops presented by the Federation can be found by clicking on this link.
PCTI often fills quickly and Registration is required. We recommend registering early. Preference will be given to youth with disabilities and family members of children with special needs. Registration closes one business day prior to class or when the class roster is full.
