{"id":1385233,"date":"2022-06-01T11:27:45","date_gmt":"2022-06-01T15:27:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fcsn.org\/?p=1385233"},"modified":"2025-07-21T17:36:31","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T21:36:31","slug":"history-of-the-school-finder-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fcsn.org\/vi\/history-of-the-school-finder-project\/","title":{"rendered":"History of the School Finder Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Project History<\/h4>\n<p>The School Finder project is a direct result of a year-long effort to hear from language-diverse families about their experiences seeking to understand their educational options, including career and technical education.<\/p>\n<p>The Secondary Options Family Engagement (SOFE) Project took place during school year 2021-22, thanks to a grant from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Our goal was to tap into the insights of families to develop strategies for building awareness of career and technical education.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11867 size-full alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/fcsn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Graph.png?resize=400%2C243&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Graph showing English Speakers have higher awareness of career and technical education than speakers of other languages\" width=\"400\" height=\"243\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In October 2021, we organized multi-language surveys,\u00a0focus groups, and interviews to hear from families from around the state. These sessions presented a walk-through of two online tools: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doe.mass.edu\/families\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DESE Family Portal<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.doe.mass.edu\/search\/get_closest_orgs.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Massachusetts School Finder<\/a>. The sessions also shared content developed by the SOFE project for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doe.mass.edu\/ccte\/cvte\/cte-families\/default.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DESE website<\/a>.
