Strategies may include:\n<ul>\n<li>Posting information on your website<\/li>\n<li>Regularly sending email announcements to potential recruits<\/li>\n<li>Displaying brochures and flyers provided by RTSC in your schools, offices, and parent meeting rooms<\/li>\n<li>Identifying strong candidates from among your existing volunteers, SEPAC members, and parent leaders and encouraging them to apply to the program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Submitting information regarding outreach efforts (events, locations, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Directing volunteers to the RTSC website for the SESP Application, Orientation Training options, and contact information for RTSC support<\/li>\n<li>Requesting assistance and guidance from RTSC as necessary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Who Qualifies to be an SESP?&#8221; open_toggle_text_color=&#8221;#012947&#8243; open_toggle_background_color=&#8221;#E0F2FA&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; toggle_text_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243; toggle_level=&#8221;h3&#8243; open=&#8221;off&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;2px||0px||false|false&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>To become and SESP, volunteers must meet certain eligibility requirements, including the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At least 18 years old<\/li>\n<li>Not employed by an agency involved in the care or education of the student they will be serving. For example, an SESP may not be appointed to work with a student within the same school district where they work, or the same district where their own child(ren) attend(s) school.<\/li>\n<li>Have no interest that might conflict with the interests of the student<\/li>\n<li>Must have, or be willing to obtain, adequate knowledge in special education and the Individualized Education Program process<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once they are approved to serve as an SESP, they must meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Completion of the <a href=\"https:\/\/fcsn.org\/calendar\/\">Orientation Training<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>and <a href=\"https:\/\/fcsn.org\/rtsc\/rtsc-application\/\">SESP Application<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Completion of a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) Form<\/li>\n<li>Agree to promote the best interest of the student in special education matters<\/li>\n<li>Agree to respect the confidentiality of all records and information related to the student<\/li>\n<li>Commit to accessing ongoing assistance and guidance from the RTSC via phone calls, virtual meetings, webinars, and newsletters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;How will RTSC support the SESPs we recruit?&#8221; open_toggle_text_color=&#8221;#012947&#8243; open_toggle_background_color=&#8221;#E0F2FA&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; toggle_text_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243; toggle_level=&#8221;h3&#8243; open=&#8221;off&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;2px||0px||false|false&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>RTSC routinely offers ongoing training and support to our dedicated SESPs. Initial orientations can take place in two ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>RTSC conducts regular trainings throughout the state. Interested volunteers can attend at any convenient location, as advertised on the FCSN workshop calendar<\/li>\n<li>RTSC Trainers can also present an Orientation Training for your specific school district, for groups of three or more recruited volunteers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then, SESPs will have access to a range of supports, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monthly newsletter and social media posts<\/li>\n<li>Weekly check-in sessions for all SESPs<\/li>\n<li>Individual calls with an RTSC support specialist<\/li>\n<li>Live and recorded webinars on special education and related topics<\/li>\n<li>Opportunities to connect with other advocacy leaders connected with FCSN<\/li>\n<li>Free tickets to FCSN&#8217;s annual <a href=\"\/voc\">Visions of Community<\/a> conference<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;What is the Developmental Trauma Training?&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; toggle_text_color=&#8221;#000000&#8243; toggle_level=&#8221;h3&#8243; open=&#8221;off&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;2px||0px||false|false&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>This training presents current research findings on how children\u2019s brains, minds, and bodies respond to traumatic experiences and how prevalent adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are in today\u2019s classroom.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"fcsn-h3\">Training Topics<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>How traumatic reactivity of children with complex trauma can adversely impact their ability to learn<\/li>\n<li>Understanding challenging behaviors during the school day, and empathic responses rooted in compassionate accountability<\/li>\n<li>Areas of the IEP process where a knowledge and understanding of the impact of trauma on learning is essential<\/li>\n<li>How to capture students&#8217; trauma-related needs in the IEP<\/li>\n<li>How to write relevant and measurable goals for social-emotional learning and post-secondary transition, both of which are essential for positive life outcomes<\/li>\n<li>Cultivating a paradigm shift towards \u201csafe and supportive schools\u201d by ending zero tolerance disciplinary procedures that lead to school push-out (exclusion, suspension, expulsion) and put students at risk for the PK to prison pipeline<\/li>\n<li>Resources for continued learning including a Teacher\u2019s Toolkit to use before, during, and after a behavioral crisis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"fcsn-h3\">Impact and Outcomes<\/h3>\n<p>As a result of the learning experiences in the training, participants will<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8230;become better able to use evidence-based school and classroom strategies that support the academic growth of students who have experienced trauma<\/li>\n<li>&#8230; grow in their awareness of behavioral triggers that may disrupt the learning process<\/li>\n<li>&#8230;learn how to create a safe, supportive and trauma-sensitive environment in their classroom and school for all students<\/li>\n<li>&#8230; analyze the impact that poverty, home environment, family history of trauma, age and gender may have on the learning process<\/li>\n<li>&#8230; learn how to approach behavior challenges holistically and with inquisitiveness by asking \u201cWhat has happened to this student and their family, and what can we do to help?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;How do districts request an SESP for a student?&#8221;
