Description
Supporting Military Families is a priority for the School Liaison Program and the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP). The School Liaisons and EFMP Coordinators are a resource for parents and school districts and are integral in the state’s implementation of the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Students (ICEOMC). The School Liaison Program and EFMP services are offered service-wide and located in every state and country with an active-duty military installation.
The purpose of the ICEOMC also called the “Compact,” is to remove barriers to educational success imposed on children of military families due to frequent moves and a service member’s deployments. All 50 states and the District of Columbia have signed legislation to become part of the Compact.
In 2017, the Department of Defense (DoD) joined the Compact by signing a memorandum of understanding and adopting the DoD Instruction 1342.29. This means military kids are covered by the Compact regulations when transitioning between public or Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools. Join us to learn more about these programs and services available to support military families.
